SENE NI SORO
Agriculture and Agri-food to Support Entrepreneurship and Local Development in Mali
SENE NI SORO is an international cooperation project aimed at mitigating the root causes of irregular migration from Mali by supporting local socioeconomic development through the creation of stable and dignified employment for young people and those most inclined to migrate irregularly. The project is co-financed by the Italian Ministry of the Interior under the 2024 RELINT Public Notice.

The identification of needs and problem analysis follows a holistic approach and is based on data carefully collected through
- interviews and analyses conducted within the framework of projects and research (2020–present), such as: Bara ni Yiriwa, AwArtMali, ARSMAIS, SEMINA
- periodic and in-depth analysis of available literature on sustainable development in Africa, the Sahel, and Mali, focusing on training, entrepreneurship, employment, the migration-development nexus, gender, and disability, as well as national strategic and programmatic documents, ASICS, and international organizations and NGOs (EU, IFAD, FAO, UNDP, etc.)
- meetings, interviews, and focus groups with key public and private sector stakeholders, as well as beneficiaries of previous projects, microcredit associations, and local authorities.

the objectives
Contribute to mitigating the causes of irregular migration from Mali by supporting local socioeconomic development.
Promote the acquisition of technical and managerial skills and the development of entrepreneurial alternatives to unemployment in the agri-food sector in the Bamako district and Cercle of Kati.

Training of Trainers
Training on new methods for skills transfer and innovative approaches, particularly in entrepreneurship and agroecological, sustainable, and green practices.
Awareness, Engagement, Selection, and Training of Beneficiaries:
Awareness campaign to promote project opportunities for youth and adults at risk of migration, both in terms of vocational training and microenterprise creation.
Capacity Building
Strengthening the skills of government/local actors and civil society members through the exchange of best practices and peer-to-peer training activities.
Creation of Agri-food Microenterprises Startups
Workshops on Startup Management
Focused on AGR creation and financial literacy.
Coaching, Mentoring, and Technical Assistance for the newly created agri-food microenterprises.
What does ISMU do?
Awareness campaign using new and traditional media
Based on a local qualitative background survey to identify push and pull factors of irregular migration and knowledge of regular migration channels among youth, ISMU will carry out a widespread awareness campaign and conduct dedicated information sessions for youth and adults at risk of irregular migration. The content will focus on informational tools and general information on Italian legislation regarding legal migration.
